Advent of Technology and the Consequent Human Rights Violations: An Appraisal of Bangladesh

The law enforcement agencies which are considered the key component of a democratic society all over the world are primarily responsible for the preservation of peace and order, protection of life and property of the citizens and prevention as well as detection of crime. But during the few years, human rights violations by the law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh have increased alarmingly. For the social control of a society enforcement of the law is essential. Law enforcement agencies in our country are responsible to control the crime and law and order situation. Their mission is to uphold the rule of law, ensure safety and security of citizens, detect and prevent crime, bring offenders to justice and maintain peace and order. Historically, law enforcement agencies have referred the enforcement of criminal law all over the world. In this paper, an attempt has been made to focus the human rights violations that are alleged to have been done by the law enforcement agency and to highlight the dimensions of violations made by the law enforcement agencies, their implications upon the law and order situation in Bangladesh. This paper also includes a critical appraisal of the existing laws governing the law enforcing agencies and finally points out some recommendations for the eradication of the loopholes haunting in our security forces and to make them as a force functioning by the law, under the law, and for the law.
